Brandon Miller has his dream job, financial security, and he’s madly in love. Only one thing is missing—a commitment.

Angela Cooper’s ex-husband left her with deep scars, souring her on the concept of marriage. She’s not interested in a do-over. Not with Brandon or anyone. Her heart is locked securely away behind a thick wall.

With a ring in his pocket and hope in his heart, Brandon arranges a romantic getaway to the historic Harbor Pointe Inn, where he plans to pop the question.

Before they reach the inn, Angela’s got her camera in hand and ghosts on her mind. But they arrive to find a much more tangible horror.

Accident or foul play?

Someone is up to no good, and Angela is the next target. When suspects can be worldly or otherworldly, danger and secrets lurk everywhere.

Poised at the perilous edge of too late, Angela and Brandon face the fight of their lives.

4 stars!

True love overcomes the pain of the past.

The Edge of Too Late is the fifth book in the multi-author penned series, Harbor Pointe, and like those before it, shared the setting at an elegant and historic oceanfront hotel with an iconic lighthouse on the property. There are rumors of ghostly apparitions onsite and past paranormal activity: the perfect location for the main character, Brandon Miller, to propose to his ghosthunter but commitment-averse girlfriend, Angela Cooper. Or is it?

Brandon is a successful and newly wealthy game developer who’s head over heels in love with his girlfriend of more than a year, Angie. He’s more than ready to pop the question but realizes that Angie, still struggling to overcome the trauma of a disastrous first marriage, is fearful of making such a commitment ever again. I loved how he naturally put Angie first, wanting to please her, showing he’s nothing like her first husband, and modeling his commitment to her by his actions. Still, he feels he needs to officially lay his cards on the table about what he wants for their future. Angie has avoided discussing marriage with Bran time and time again, but she knows that she can’t keep putting it off. She feels deep in her heart that it is unfair to Brandon to string him along if she won’t be able to match his feelings for her.

While the story focuses on the couple’s relationship, there are also eerie ghost sightings and some uneasy encounters with a couple of less ethereal types: a mysterious and angry man living in a cave on the beach and the hotel’s strange maintenance man who displays an uncomfortable interest in the lovely Angie. The book has fun descriptions of the couple’s day trips as Brandon woos Angie and works up to proposing.

I recommend THE EDGE OF TOO LATE to readers who like second-chance romances and enjoy a touch of the paranormal in their stories.

Jan Sikes writes compelling and creative stories from the heart.

She openly admits that she never set out in life to be an author. But she had a story to tell. Not just any story, but a true story that rivals any fiction creation. She brought the entertaining true story to life through fictitious characters in an intricately woven tale encompassing four books, accompanying music CDs, and a book of poetry and art.

And now, this author can’t find a way to put down the pen. She continues to write fiction and has published numerous award-winning short stories and novels.

Jan is an active blogger, an avid fan of Texas music, and a grandmother of five. She resides in North Texas.

  1. Hi, a lovely review of Jan’s book. I am looking forward to reading it.

  2. Thank you so much, Karen, for the lovely review. I am so glad you enjoyed the story.

  3. I just finished listening to this one on audio, and like you, I enjoyed dropping in on this couple’s relationship, right when it’s at a turning point. And I love that setting of Harbor Pointe and would definitely seek out other books in the series — and more from this author, too! Thanks for sharing your review.

Great review and post! A story I enjoyed 🙂

Loved the review, Karen. I really found this to be a big story told in just a short space. That’s difficult to do. Angi and Brandon had such good chemistry and the plot unfolded at the speed it should. I thought the addition of the parrot on the pirate ship added a lot to the story. That was fun. This is one of Jan’s best. Each story gets better and better. Love you, Jan.

  7. Loved reading your review! I thought the different story elements were well balanced and am officially a Jan Sikes fan now 🙂

  8. This was my first experience reading one of Jan’s books and I have no idea why I’ve waited this long! I’m definitely looking forward to my January hiatus to catch up on Jan’s backlist. Dilemma, though! Where to start??? They all sound so good.

  9. Fantastic review! Congratulations to Jan!

  10. Jan’s series has joined my tbr list. Now all there’s left is to read it! Thanks for sharing 🙂
