SYNOPSIS:

One Polar Bear is a delightful rhyming book filled with lovable animals from the Canadian Arctic. Polar Bear is home sick and alone. His many animal friends drop by to cheer him up. This counting story celebrates individuals with a variety of abilities and disabilities, and the text helps teach the numbers one to ten. Canada is a country made up of many peoples and cultures. This book reflects this diversity by featuring the word “welcome” in different languages amongst its pages. One Polar Bear is a wonderful bedtime story and a beautiful way to educate and celebrate the differences in our world.

If you can be anything, be inclusive.

REVIEW:

5 stars!

A lovely children’s picture book with warming illustrations in a beautiful cozy palette of colors.

One Polar Bear, an upcoming children’s picture book by Crystal Beach, offers several great ideas with warning illustrations in a beautiful cozy palette of colors. Not only can parents share the story of Polar Bear on the day he was home in bed sick, but there is the learning to count aspect, a simple lesson in languages, and the inclusion of a variety of Canadian wildlife subtly depicting different abilities and disabilities.

Oh, to go back in time! I would have snapped this book up to share with my boys when they were little ones. The only thing I can add is that I would have loved the addition of a Glossary collecting all the words for “Welcome” at the end of the book identifying each specific language.

I recommend ONE POLAR BEAR to families with young children, especially those with differently-abled members and children who enjoy animal characters in their stories.
